(L to R: Rob Barnes, IBB Treasurer; Rep. Steve Andersson; Bill Kaempfe, IBB President, Rep. David Harris)
State Rep. David Harris, along with state Rep. Andersson (Geneva, IL), recently honored the Illinois Brass Band (IBB) with a House Resolution at the Band's 25th anniversary concert. The Resolution recognizes the 25th anniversary of the founding of the Illinois Brass Band and declared June 11th, 2016, as Illinois Brass Band Day in IL.
The concert took place at First United Methodist Church in Arlington Heights, which is the Band's home. Several of the Band's former music directors were in attendance along with current music director Stephen Squires.
The Illinois Brass Band was founded in 1991 and has been a local state treasure ever since. By 2002, IBB had won six North American Brass Band Association championships in seven years, all while continuing to delight audiences throughout the Chicago area with a repertoire ranging from brass band classics to show tunes to jazz. In 2003, the IBB band became the first brass band outside the British Commonwealth to attend the British Open Brass Band Championships. Over the years, IBB has presented dozens of concerts indoors and outdoors. The Illinois Brass Band has recorded six CDs.
